HEOR Strategy

HEOR strategy is the discipline of planning, sequencing and generating the evidence needed to support health technology assessment (HTA) or payer engagement. It determines what clinical and economic evidence is required, identifies what already exists and maps a structured pathway to address the gaps.

Medical device and diagnostics companies sometimes lack a cogent HEOR strategy. Unlike pharmaceutical companies, who build evidence strategies around phased clinical development programmes, device manufacturers frequently reach the point of HTA submission or payer engagement without a coherent evidence plan in place. Clinical studies may have measured the wrong endpoints, economic evidence may have been commissioned reactively and publications may have been timed around internal convenience rather than market access milestones. The result can be weaker submissions, longer timelines and avoidable failures.

I work with medical device and life sciences companies to develop strategies that ensure clinical and economic evidence is generated in a planned and structured manner that supports downstream success. This includes evidence landscaping and gap analysis, early engagement with HTA bodies and the design of managed roadmaps that sequence the right evidence at the right time.
