Health Economic Modelling
Economic models play a vital role in enabling decision-makers to assess the value of a treatment or intervention and to understand the impact it could have on healthcare budgets and resources.
In my work I use a range of methodologies – including decision trees, Markov models and simulations – to demonstrate how diseases progress, how treatments are delivered and what this means, over time, for both the costs of care and the outcomes for patients. I’m experienced in applying all the established techniques for economic modelling in healthcare – including cost-effectiveness and cost-utility analysis, and budget or resource impact analysis. I deliver these as both interactive digital models and peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals.
Through my economic modelling work I provide the makers of drugs, devices and digital health applications with transparent, robust and highly credible evidence of the value and impact of their innovations.
Evidence Review and Synthesis
High-quality systematic reviews and meta-analyses are a pillar of evidence-based healthcare.
I plan and carry out decision-grade, methodologically rigorous reviews that bring together all the clinical or economic evidence that payers, purchasers and reimbursement bodies need to evaluate an intervention. At each stage of the review process – from the initial framing of the research question and registration of a protocol through to the extraction and analysis of data – I apply the techniques that will generate the most comprehensive and transparent summary measures and analyses.
Real-World Evidence
I use data generated during routine healthcare delivery to develop high-quality evidence of efficacy, safety and usage in the real world.
As electronic health records, registries and patient-generated data proliferate, the influence and importance of real-world data is growing.
I combine large datasets with appropriate study designs and statistical methods to produce robust, generalisable evidence more quickly and cost-effectively than can be achieved with a randomised controlled trial and more safely than can be done in settings where trials are risky or difficult to conduct.
Value Communication
All successful market access strategies depend on establishing value propositions that are meaningful for the decision-makers who facilitate access to and uptake of healthcare interventions.
In my value communication practice I use a broad range of channels to demonstrate a product’s clinical, economic and societal benefits.
In addition to developing peer-reviewed publications for high-impact journals, I deliver engaging conference and symposium presentations and partner in the development of asynchronous content such as podcasts.
I also develop user-friendly, interactive, customer facing-tools, such as budget impact models, that enable sales teams to tell value stories that are customised to real-world scenarios.
